This space exists for quite a while. It has been kept here quiet in the cyber space. The idea was to have a blog that was different from Inner Babel / Babel Interior (www.innerbabel.blogspot.com.br). Inner Babel has become a space for fiction and poetry and I began thinking that my fragmented daily reflections did not fit there otherwise. Hence this new space I created which was kept silent for some time, over a year.
The idea was to have the title in English and Portuguese, just like Inner Babel / Babel Interior. Simply because, as a translator, I am sure I'll end up writing in both languages. The small title I had chosen did not fit. But I would like to make clear that the name of the blog is O Grande Livro das Pequenas Impressões sobre Assuntos Insignificantes / The Great Book of Small Impressions on Insignificant Matters. I know! It's huge! But it is what it is! I have no idea if all the posts will be about insignificant matters, but the principle is that us, our lives, our little planet, are all insignificant in the great scheme of things of the Universe (see accompanying comic).
It is, this space, for me, an unpretentious place. A place I can write about the things that insist on walking in circles, sometimes running and stumbling, inside me, but that do not wish to come out as poetry or fiction. Paraphrasing a small client of a friend of mine who's a shrink, they "just want to be!" (it sounds cuter in Portuguese, I must say!). And, here, they will be!
This Great Book, I here begin, intends to work as what a blog was meant to be from the start, a place to share experiences and reflectios. That's what it intends to be. That's how it's started, but I have no idea what it will become of it along the way. "Walk and the path shall be laid open!" Today, after some hibernation, The Great Book of Small Impressions on Insignificant Matters (GBSIIM) takes its first step, a small step for humanity, but a great step for me!
